Why the Aakash Tablet Failed Miserably?

When the government of India came up with the idea of giving a tablet pc to all the students on a dirt cheap price tag, there was a huge hue and cry made around the news. And as the date of the release of the tablet approached the hue and cry got even more intense. The tablet named Aakash arrived and after some time it was made available for the common public. The cost conscious public of our nation took it like hot cakes as there were hundreds of thousands of pre-orders booked. But soon after, the whole halo around the Aakash collapsed like a pack of cards. Let’s try to find out what exactly went wrong with the potentially nation changing tablet.

We have to understand that if a gadget is not performing well, the price tag is rendered redundant. The biggest drawback (read blunder) of the tablet was its resistive touch that takes it half a decade back in the time line. There can be an argument that this tablet has been devised for utility and not for the luxury; but that does not ameliorate the fact that the tablet has a painful touch experience. Anyway, going further we find that the Aakash has a 366MHz single core processor, which I would have to say, with a heavy heart, is even poorer than a middle range smart phone. The 256MB RAM is equally bad.

If we talk about the storage capacity of the tablet, it sports a 2GB onboard storage capacity and a 32 GB furtherance capacity via microSD card. That again is a weakness that is hard to overlook. The battery life also was very poor as the Aakash tablet had a Li-Ion 3200mAh battery. Then it, in the age of ICS, had the antediluvian Android 2.2 Froyo.

Students too like to get entertained, but this tablet did not support MP4 and there was no loudspeaker. The camera was also a prominent absentee. And the new gen folks were disappointed, big time, over the non existence of 3G support.

All in all Aakash is a sheer waste of money, effort, and time. A blot on the Indian think tank and on the Canadian company Datawind who happens to be the manufacturer of the disappointment, Aakash Tablet!!

In the operating system column LG Optimus 4X HD has ICS 4.0 to show, which happens to be the latest and the best Android till date.

The gadget has HTML5 browser and Adobe Flash support for the net savvy folks. In the data segment the LG Optimus 4X HD has Bluetooth with A2DP, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, DLNA. Then it has HSDPA, HSUPA, EDGE, and GPRS.

There are apps to enchant the buyers such as SNS integration, Active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, TV-out (via MHL A/V link),DivX/Xvid/MP4/H.264/H.263/WMV player,MP3/WAV/WMA/eAAC+ player, Document editor, Organizer, Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk,Voice memo/dial/commands, Predictive text input.

HP Folio 13 VS. Dell XPS 13: A Battle of the Light Weight

Ever since the Apple Inc. came out with its ultra slim and ultra light weight MacBook Air (the ultrabook that soon became the bench mark for all the other players), there has been a fierce competition going on in the market, all the makers are trying their level best to come up with some new innovation without tinkering much with the size and shape the gadget.

Of late, the two products that are attracting a lot of media and public attention are HP Folio 13 and the Dell XPS 13. So, in this article we will be comparing both the products one against another for our readers to decide for themselves that which one is better suited to their needs. So, without any further prevarications, let’s divulge into a head to head comparison.

CPU and RAM: The HP folia 13 comes powered with the second generation core i5 processor which is seconded by a mammoth 4GB RAM whereas the XPS sports the same specs as we are taking the basic XPS 13 model (XPS 13 comes in three avatars). No one seems to be gaining an edge over the other here.

Storage Capacity: HP Folio 13 comes packed with 128 GB mSATA hard drive whereas the XPS 13 offers the users up to 256 GB solid state hard drive. Here one gets a hint that the XPS 13 has a overwhelming victory over the Folio, but we should not forget that the storage capacity in a Ultra book is not that big a factor, after all the legendry MacBook Air sports the same capacity as the Folio.

Display and Dimension: In the display segment the HP Folio has on offer13.3-inch diagonal LED-backlit HD2 (1366 x 768) Bright View screen on the other hand the XPS offers Elemental Silver Aluminum and 13.3" Hi-Def (720p) True Life WLED Display. Dell XPS 13 seems to be scoring over the HP Folio.

Battery Efficiency: HP folio comes packed with 6-cell (59WHr) Li-Ion battery which is quite man enough to provide the users a work life of 9.5 hours, in reply, the XPS 13 has a 6 cell Li-Polymer 47WHr battery which provides the users with a work time of 8 hours and 53 minutes. Here the HP wins by a small margin.

Operating System: Both the devices run Windows 7 64 bit. The only difference is that the XPS runs Home Premium and the Folio runs Professional.

Connection Ports : In the ports segment the HP folio seems to be a few steps ahead of the XPS 13 as it offers you RJ-45 (Ethernet), (1) USB 3.0, (1) USB 2.0 and (1) HDMI; headphone/microphone combo jack; power connector. Whereas the XPS 13 has only USB 3.0 (1) + USB 2.0 with Power Share (1); mini Display Port (1);Headset Jack (1). In the absence of HDMI port and SD card reader XPS seems to be lagging far behind the Folio.

Connectivity: Both the devices sport Bluetooth 3.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. so both the devices are at the same pedestal in this section.

The Pricing: The Dell XPS 13 is priced at INR 79,990 and the HP Folio 13 is priced at around 69 thousand bucks. This difference of around ten thousand rupees could play a major role in deciding the fate of the laptops; undoubtedly the Hp Folio 13 sweeps this round.

The Verdict: Both the devices are standing at almost the same pedestal as far as the tech specs are concerned but the lack of ports and the hefty price tag makes the Dell XPS 13 lose some of the vital ground to the HP Folio 13.

HP Folio 13 reigns supreme!

Google Panda, the New Yardstick for Web Population

Many people are still quite unfamiliar with what exactly the Google Panda is all about. It is fair if they don’t earn their daily bread from the Internet, but for those who do, it is an utter necessity, especially if they are running small business website. Let us get a feel of it.

Google Panda, since its arrival, changed the SEO angle of getting the web traffic to a particular site all together. The ranking system of Google is quite simple; it tests the algorithm of the site and then ranks it according to the authenticity. But earlier the parameter was different; Google didn’t seem to mind the idea of backlinking or affiliate marketing. But the advent of the Panda completely changed the scenario.
At the present moment the Panda looks for a certain set of other things for a site and does not pay that much of heed on the backlinking. That certain set of things include quality content, greater interaction with the readers, no duplicity or plagiarism, less advertisement, higher conversion rates, good and grammatically correct use of language.Let’s concentrate on how does the Google Panda (which has been named after the name of the engineer Navneet Panda) work. The panda has been built via an algorithm that uses artificial intelligence in a more dexterous way than it was done previously. The set of software rate the websites on the quality front and also on the authenticity front. The meaning in a nutshell is that those who want to get thick traffic on their sites must abide by the strict yardstick of the Google panda.

Some people think it to be a draconian entity whereas other folks take it as the victory of the honest web population, especially the ethical bloggers. But one thing is for sure that it has changed several things, for good or for bad, that remains to be a question of contention.

Nokia Lumia 610: The Youngest Member of the Lumia Family

At this year’s Mobile World Congress, the Finnish handset maker Nokia announced the Nokia Lumia 610, which happens to be the youngest and the cheapest member of the Lumia family. Nokia Lumia 610 has been fathomed by many trade pundits as the company’s effort to induce the younger generation. It will hit the retail shop shelves 30% cheaper than the Nokia Lumia710, which until now was the cheapest Lumia.

The handset Lumia 610 is pretty similar to the Lumia 710, of course there are small differences but there are more similarities than differences. The processor of the handset is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 7227A, which happens to be a single core one and has a clock speed of 800 MHz, whereas the clock speed of the Lumia 710 is 1400 MHz. Similarly the RAM of the 610 is 256MB but the same of the 710 is 512 MB.

The storage capacity of the Lumia 610 is 8GB, which is same as that of Lumia 710, and there is no card slot on offer. But the company has tried to make up for that as there is SkyDrive storage available on the handset. The camera feature on both the Lumias is the same; 8MP rear camera with no camera on the front.

As far as the display is concerned the Lumia 610, like the 710, offers you the 3.7 inch screen, which happens to be a TFT LCD with 480x800 p resolution that makes the ppi 252p/inch. And yes, there is corning gorilla glass to protect your handset from accidental scratches.

Now, the battery and battery backup segment: the Nokia Lumia 610 has a standard Li-Ion battery, which will be giving you a 10.5 hours talk time and 670 hours standby time on the 2G network.

In the connectivity and data segment, it has Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, EDGE, GPRS class 10, HSDPA, HSUPA and USB 2.0 connection. As far as browser is concerned it has HTML 5. Acting as a Wi-Fi hotspot, it can connect upto 5 devices.

The new age social networking buffs will also not get disappointed as it has people hub, which is comprised of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, email, Chat, SMS, and Groups. Other apps include Nokia Drive, Nokia Maps, Nokia Transit, and App Highlights.

It has a dimension of 119.2x62.2x12mm. The Nokia Lumia 610 weighs around 131.5g, and that for a 3.7 inch handset is a good thing if not feather light.

Seems to be a mouth watering prospect, but how much substance is there to back the anticipation? Let’s wait and watch.

Nokia Lumia 900 vs HTC Titan II

At this year’s Consumers Electronic Show, Las Vegas, two handset makers, Nokia and HTC, announced two Windows phones: Nokia Lumia 900 and HTC Titan II. One is considered one of the best Windows smartphones; the other is undoubtedly the biggest Windows based handset. In this article we will be comparing both the handset one against another and find out which one is and should be crowned as a better handset.

We will start the comparison with the CPU and RAM, the Nokia Lumia 900 has a single core 1.4 GHz Scorpion processor, the chipset is Qualcomm APQ8055 Snapdragon. On the other hand the HTC Titan II has a 1.5 GHz Scorpion processor and the chipset being Qualcomm S2 Snapdragon. Nokia Lumia 900 sports a 512 MB RAM and the HTC Titan II has the same to offer. The HTC Titan II seems to be winning in this segment.

Next comes the section of storage where the Nokia Lumia 900 has a 16GB storage capacity with no card expansion facility. But the SkyDrive cloud storage is there to compensate for the nonexistent humongous storage capacity. The HTC Titan II has a 16 GB all flash memory with no expansion via card. Both the handsets seem to be at the same pedestal in the segment.

If the display of the mobiles are to be compared the Nokia Lumia 900 has a 4.3" AMOLED ClearBlack glass touchscreen. On the other hand the HTC Titan which mentioned earlier has the biggest screen among all the Windows phones, sports a 4.7 inch S-LCD screen. Both the handsets have a 480x800p resolution but due to its smaller size the Nokia Lumia 900 has a better ppi hence better screen viewing. This section belongs to the Nokia Lumia 900.

If the batteries of the handsets are to be compared then the Titan II has a Standard Li-Ion 1730 mAh battery while the Nokia Lumia 900 has a standard 1830 mAh battery. No need to say that the Lumia 900 wins again.

Then comes the number of Camera, the Lumia 900 sports an 8MP rear camera which happens to be an autofocus one and has Dual LED flash. The other gadget sweeps this round with a complete land slide as it sports a massive 16 MP autofocus rear camera with Dual-LED flash. Both the handsets have 1.3 MP front cameras.

In the data segment both the handsets have EDGE, GPRS, HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth, USB 2.0. But with features like NFC the HTC Titan II seems to have a slight edge over the 900.

Other features like sensors, social networking, Browser (HTML5), Radio, GPS, Active noise cancellation are the same in both the handsets.

Either of the handsets, at times, seems to be scoring over the other. But one thing is worth noting that Lumia 900 has the repute of Nokia to back itself and it has better quality hardware coordination. So I would give my sincere recommendation to the Nokia Lumia 900 while saying that the HTC Titan II is also not a bad deal either. What’s your say on this folks?
