General packet radio service (GPRS) is a data service, available on the 2G and 3G cellular networks. This service enables users to access Internet-connected applications on a mobile phone.
Anyone wants to know how GPRS works?? A single piece of information such as an e-mail is split into small packets of information. Each packet of information takes the quickest possible route to reach its destination, which means, different packets diverge and travel separately through different routes within networks, in order to avoid obstructions and finally converge at the destination.
The speed of GPRS depends on the number of slots supported by mobile phone or base station, users’ distance from base station, and amount of traffic at the base station. GPRS is allocated the free bandwidth that is currently not utilized by voice calls.
