SAMSUNG GALAXY S II (I9100) REVIEW

Samsung Galaxy S2 is a much looked-for smartphone in the Indian market. Gadget fans are comparing this high-end smartphone with the iPhone, owing certain unique features that have been incorporated into it. The most important feature that differentiates Galaxy S II from other smartphones is its 4.27 inch Super AMOLED Plus screen, with a resolution of 480x800. The Super AMOLED Plus is viewed as the most superior display technology, as it makes visuals more vibrant and soothing to the eye and provides higher viewing angles.

The phone comes with Touchwiz 4.0 user interface, Swype Text input, multi-touch input, and pinch to zoom functionality, which make the interaction with the device a real pleasure. Dialing or messaging is highly comfortable using its virtual keypad. The keys are loosely packed to make precise typing possible. The accelerometer sensor incorporated within the device makes smooth automatic orientation of the display and allows you to use motion-based games. Its ambient light sensor helps optimize the display brightness, and hence reduce power consumption.

The use of 1.2 GHZ Dual Core Processor, along with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) as the OS, has made the device a great multitasker. The hardware and software are well-harmonized to give a much convenient and friendly user experience.  Even though the rectangular shape and bigger screen have made the device look awesome, there are some grievances about its built-quality, as it is made mostly from plastic.  But its scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass screen covers up the drawback, making it a device suitable for rough handling as well. It is one of the sleekest phones with a thickness of 8.49 mm and weighing not more than 116g.

The device supports advanced connectivity options such as Wi-Fi b/g/n, quadband 3G, Bluetooth v3.0, and USB 2.0. The device can even act as a Wi-Fi hotspot. While on 3G, it gives download speed of 21 mbps and upload speed of 5.76 mbps. The GPS (with assisted-GPS) functions much reliably and accurately on the device, compared its predecessor Galaxy S.

Galaxy S II comes with a rear camera of 8MP resolution, with autofocus, smile detection, face detection and geo-tagging functionalities. It is complemented with LED flash to provide better pictures under low lighting conditions. The camera is even capable of full-HD video recording and provides various capture modes and amazing field of coverage. It has been provided with a front camera (2MP) for enabling video chat and to click self portraits.

It is loaded with great entertainment features. The bigger size of the screen, powerful graphic processing unit, and accelerometer sensor take the gaming experience to new heights.Graphic games such as Assassin’s Creed runs well on Galaxy S II. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrVCrKn_3P8

It supports MP3, eAAC+, and WAV music formats. Its 3.5mm audio jack provides you with provision to connect to your favourite headset. You can connect the device to TV screens via an HDMI cable, thanks to its support for Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) standard.

An internal memory of 16GB and expansion capacity of 32GB provide users with great storage space for music, photos, videos, and apps. Having a good battery is important for such a multitasking phone. The Li-Ion 1650 mAh battery of the device gives decent talktime of 18 hrs in 2G network and 8 hrs in 3G network. The device provides standby time of 29 days in 2G and 25 days in 3G.

Samsung Galaxy S is currently placed in the expensive smartphones category. But what most of the users are saying is that it is worth spending about Rs.30000, for owning and flaunting a stylish yet powerful gadget like Samsung Galaxy S II.
